Goal | Set up and maintain an aquarium in the classroom with freshwater fish to demonstrate what parameters are needed to keep them alive and healthy. |
Description | During the Spring semester the class will take a field trip to an aquarium store and become familiar with the different species of fish as well as the different types of equipment needed to set up an aquarium. The students will go back to the classroom and set up the aquarium with the items purchased. Every day a different student will take water samples to check the water quality, make the necessary adjustments and enter the results into a data sheet. They will then use that data to create a graph. |
Benefits | This project will be used to show students how ecosystems work and what measures need to be taken to keep a small habitat alive and well. By viewing the data recorded, students will be able to see the visual progress of their efforts. |
